SOLECO Construction Company has been given 108 days to hand over a refurbished Lugogo indoor stadium to MTN Foundation.

The foundation has set aside sh700m to give the stadium a face-lift, for it to be able to host international engagements.

The countdown will start as soon as the company officers sign the contract to modernise the facility. The contract is expected to be signed next week.

Information from the meeting between the MTN Foundation and National Council of Sports NCS disclosed that Soleco was selected after a competitive bidding by various companies.

NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa confirmed they had finalised selection of the contractors, but it was the communications company MTN’s lawyers drawing the contract.

“We are waiting to hear from them. It will be them to announce the contractor and when the work starts,” said Aligawesa yesterday.

Soleco managing director Peter Andres said he had heard of his company winning the contract but was yet to get a formal communication.

Aligawesa clarified that the MTN Foundation had only been given permission to refurbish and advertise in the indoor stadium and did not cover any other facility at the Lugogo sports headquarters complex.
