<b>Kyafu orders special audit</b><br>IGANGA-The LC5 chairman, Asuman Kyafu, has ordered a special audit into the activities of Busembatia Town Council. This is aimed at ending the bickering between councillors, residents and the technical staff.

IGANGA-The LC5 chairman, Asuman Kyafu, has ordered a special audit into the activities of Busembatia Town Council. This is aimed at ending the bickering between councillors, residents and the technical staff. Over 600 residents last week rioted and besieged the town council offices. They held the LC3 chairman, Peter Mwandha, town clerk Eria Magumba and engineer Robert Mwembe hostage for hours over alleged corruption, shoddy work and failing government programmes. Residents also banged doors and bought petrol, threatening to burn the offices.

Red Cross trains drivers
JINJA-The Uganda Red Cross Society has embarked on a programme to train drivers in a bid to reduce road accidents and promote safety on roads. The society on Wednesday passed out 64 drivers of Kakira Sugar Works after an eight-day community road safety and defensive driving course.

Police warned on suspects
JINJA-The Police have been warned against detaining suspects for a long time over petty cases. The chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, Med Kaggwa, said Police cells were becoming unnecessarily congested because petty offenders were occasionally denied bond. He was speaking at a dinner at Hotel Paradise on the Nile on Wednesday.

Dutch assist 10 institutes
MBALE-Ten vocational institutes in the east have received hand tools from Gered Gereedschar, a group of volunteers from the Netherlands. The tools were on Friday handed over to the representatives of the institutes by the technical adviser of the Uganda Association of Private Vocational Institutes, Ulrike Neundorf, at Mbale Municipal Polytechnic Institute.
