EVEN after eight games, it is not surprising that A1 Challenge remain unbeaten in the MTN-FUBA ladies league. In recent seasons, Hamza Nyambogo’s team have made such winning runs a pastime, thanks to their wealth of experience and skill.

This evening they will seek to make it nine wins when they face the KIU Rangers, a side that does not have a bad record itself. The Rangers have won seven of their nine matches.

The Rangers have strengthened their squad with a group of young guns led by Mariam Tamale. Their verve could cause A1 a lot of problems and A1 star Ali Mavita agrees but insists that when the dust settles, there will be only one winner.

“After tomorrow, we shall still be unbeaten,” Mavita decreed yesterday. “They are a good team, I’m not disrespecting them. They are a young team and very energetic but we are going to come prepared.”

A1 have already defeated the KCC Leopards and UCU Canons, the other two sides in the league that had a realistic chance of beating them.

If the Rangers fail to stop them tonight, the 2005 champions will be certain of going through the first round unbeaten.

But the Rangers will be encouraged by the fact they were the team that ended A1’s run of 16 wins last season, a result that was one of the shocks of the season.
