NO one would have guessed before the start of the MTN-FUBA League season that either the Nkumba Marines or Ndejje Angels would get anywhere close to the play-offs. Yet as the men’s basketball top division first round draws to an end, both sides are well on course for the postseason.

However, with the first three playoffs slots almost certainly decided, the Marines and Angels will have to fight it out for the last ticket.

That is what makes their meeting at YMCA today riveting as it will go some way in deciding who wins what. It is still a long battle for that final berth.

Both teams have lost thrice this season, all defeats coming from the big three of D-Mark Power, the Kyambogo Warriors and Falcons. Ndejje have won the rest of their four games while the Marines have won their other two.

This evening, one team will lose to probably the side that will complete the ‘big four’ come the end of the regular season.

Ndejje coach Walker Obedi is confident his side will emerge victorious and has promised “not to lose to any university club” this year.

His counterpart Timothy Odeke is just as adamant. “Marines is winning because we have the nerves of steel to do it,” Odeke said.
