Congs NCS and MTN, but.......
EDITOR-.News that refurbishment has finally began on the dilapidated Lugogo indoor stadium is very good. The repairs were long overdue on this facility built over five decades ago.

I commend National Council of Sports NCS for interesting telecommunication company MTN to take up the sh700m project. It was through a similar offer that UHA had its ground adjacent to the indoor stadium modernised with an astro turf surface from the International Hockey Federation.

With dwindling state sports support, the only option sports authorities are left with for support is the private sector. In fact, if NCS had taken this path much earlier, sports would definitely be at a very different level.

Rugby, cricket, golf, motor rally and football are some of the disciplines that have abundantly benefited from such corporate favours.

But much as NCS scored by spearheading the project, I think they also owe the public under what terms MTN made this generous offer.

Let me hope the agreement strictly covers the hall. The entire deal would suddenly look shady if it for instance suddenly emerged before MTN made the offer NCS had to surrender some rights on the cricket oval.
