GAMES - Main street primary school beat Jinja Army boarding primary school 3-0 in the soccer final of the Jinja Municipal Council games at Spire road primary school at the weekend. The games that attracted 21 teams, saw Kakira secondary beat Jinja team 9-7 to take the netball crown.

Geira wins in world qualifiers
SCRABBLE - Richard Geria continued his winning performance in the ongoing qualifiers for World scrabble championships in Wandegeya. Geria of Bakuli club pushed his tally to 15 points as he took over from Edwin Mugisha. Top seed Mugisha suffered a setback after losing to Greens Kamugisha.

Jinja women’s league to start
SOCCER - This year’s Jinja women soccer league will kick off early next month. Ten teams, including the defending champions Mpumudde, have already registered for the annual competition. However, the league competitions committee chairman Fred Kiwanda, has asked FUFA to help them secure trophies for the top performers. Kiwanda said that they also do not have enough balls for the event.

Rev John set for Africa meet

BASEBALL - Reverand John Foundation Primary School based in Kitintale and Lira’s Canon Laurence and will represent the country at the Africa baseball junior championships set for Nakilebe baseball facility, Mpigi, August 3-8. Teams from Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Cameroon and Ghana are also expected to compete. The winning team will represent Africa at the United States junior tournament later this year. At the same time, the proprietor and manager of Reverand John Foundation team said his players are ready to face the foreign opposition.

Stanbic aids schools tourney

GAMES - The Kasese branch of the Stanbic has offered 50 cartons of mineral water for this year’s national primary schools games starting today. Action will be in football, netball and volley over six days. Kasese district chairman, the Reverend Canon Julius Kithaghenda, who also chairs the organising committee of the games expects competitors to put up a brilliant show.

Lubega is new Nakivubo boss

GENERAL - Nakivubo board of directors has appointed Ivan Lubega manager of the war memorial stadium. Lubega, who takes over from Eugene Ssemujju fired recently, started work last week. Ssemujju was sacked for talking to journalists about a move to lease part of the stadium to a group of businessmen who had planned to put up a bus park. Boniface Oryem replaced Ssemujju in a temporary capacity before Lubega took office.

Arua rejects Inzzi stadium

SOCCER - Arua Central soccer club will register Arua Hill playground as their home ground instead of the Dorcus Inzikuru stadium for the Uganda Super League matches in the forthcoming season. Inzikuru stadium is named after the former world steeplechase champion. Arua will be making a maiden appearance in domestic soccer’s premier competition.
