Sebutinde’s integrity
THE then youngest Justice in Uganda, Julia Sebutinde, was commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni to assist the Government fight corruption. She said though the President had reservations about her ability to deliver: “He took a chance on me because he had heard that I was a person of unbendable integrity, the main ingredient he was looking for in the person to perform the assignment. Sebutinde said this in her acceptance speech when the University of Edinburgh awarded her an Honorary Doctorate of Laws.

Fiery MPs

THE Teso famine is forcing area MPs to spit fire at the Government. Dr. Francis Epetait (Ngora) said: “I’m sorry to say a hungry person is usually angry. I appeal to the Government to avoid making hungry people angrier.” Epetait was with other MPs from Teso region at a press conference at Parliament that focused on the famine in the region.

Ekanya’s facts

IF you did not know the power of facts, ask Tororo county MP Geoffrey Ekanya. Defending the creation of the new district of Mukuju, Ekanya was armed with a heap of files to which he consistently referred. “When I came carrying the files, my colleagues teased me. But we speak facts because they speak louder than the stories which my colleagues here are narrating.” He was responding to William Oketcho and Emmanuel Otaala, who insist Ekanya’s county should not destabilise Tororo municipality and West Budama.

Okupa vs Otekat

ELIJAH Okupa (Kasilo) and Emily Otekat (Serere) are up in arms over the location of the headquarters of the proposed Serere district. Whereas Okupa feels the headquarters must be at Kamod in Kasilo, Otekat says Kasilo county offices are housed in the sub-county structures. “If you have failed to have county structures, aren’t we going to wait for another 20 years to have district blocks?” Otekat asked at Parliament. Okupa answered: “The construction of the county structure was halted because of the unclear deals between the district chairperson and the contractors.
