THE Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has warned traders in the north against selling counterfeit goods. Speaking during an operation to crack down on people who sale fake goods, the northern regional manager, Emmanuel Agetta, also cautioned the traders against using weighing scales to cheat the traders.

“Today alone, we found that the traders in Gulu Bus Park lost over sh14m to maize flour processors who supplied them with quantities less than what is indicated on the bags. This has been happening for long and it must stop,” Agetta warned.

He advised the traders to buy digital weighing scales and measure goods before paying for them. Agetta explained that most of the 50 kilogramme bags they measured had a deficit of four to five kilogrammes.

The cheating traders were fined and warned. Agetta vowed to carry out regular operations to expose the cheats.

The culprits, he stated, would be arrested and prosecuted.
