THE word Brazil sums up the very best of football. The five letters stand for Brilliance, Radiance, Artistry, Zeal, Inspiration and Luminosity.

It is why the South Americans are five-time FIFA World Cup and three-time FIFA Confederations Cup winners.

Yet as far as East Africa is concerned, Uganda is the nearest semblance to them – if not for talent, then flair and achievements. The Cranes are after all, ten-time CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup champions.

In fact, individual skill and collective fluidity illuminated the 10th CECAFA win and also friendlies against Sudan and Malawi.

But in today’s high-profile friendly against Alem Brazil at Nakivubo, coach Bobby Williamson’s side might have to win a game by defending.

“We are fit and determined to win. We are not ready to lose here. There is plenty of experience in this team,” team captain Paulo Sergio stated yesterday.

The fixture promises to be a fascinating duel, and Williamson has made it known that his side would not sit back.

If Cranes make one mistake, they will run the risk of being caught out. Williamson has stressed that message over and over and hopefully it will not be ignored.

If Cranes are to prosper in future competitive fixtures, dress rehearsals such as this, could prove hugely significant.

Cranes can be inspired by having never lost a game at Nakivubo since their 3-0 defeat against Togo in 1998.

Local artist Jose Chameleon will perform during the game and later host a corporate concert at Imperial Royale Hotel dubbed ‘Gives Back’.
