A man who was whisking away stolen goats recently got the shock of his life when he met the owner in a taxi. The incident happed at Budhumbula on the Kamuli-Jinja highway.

The man, only identified as Basoga, had stolen four goats belonging to Ngobi, a taxi driver and resident of Buwudha in Nabwigulu sub-county in Kamuli district.

As Basoga stood by the road side waiting for a vehicle to take his loot, a taxi approached and he stopped it. “Conductor nendha kuteka embuzi dhange mu buttu (Conductor, I want to put my goats in the boot,” Basoga said.

Little did he know that the taxi he had stopped was being driven by Ngobi. On looking closely, Ngobi realised that the goats that Basoga wanted to put in the boot were be his.

Ngobi quickly got out of the taxi and grabbed Basoga by the belt. The passengers were confused, thinking that the taxi driver had ran mad. Some passengers intervened and rescued Basoga, who was now receiving blows on his face.

After the driver explained why he had beaten Basoga, the passengers turned on him as well and started beating him.

Ngobi wanted to drive the goats back to his home but the passengers said they did not have time to be driven to his home first before proceeding with their journey.

When the LC and local defence unit officials intervened, they took Basoga and the goats to the Police station and told Ngobi to return and claim the goats after he had taken the passengers.

Basoga was later charged with theft.
