FRED Namanya beat a strong field of 128 competitors to emerge the inaugural Nile Special ‘Sink the Black’ Pool champion after beating Shafiq Kayongo 6-3 in the best of 11 final at Sabrina’s Pub.

The 27 year-old who plays for Volts club, earned himself the top prizes of sh1.5m, two pool tables and a glittering trophy after his feat.

In the first game, Namanya played the break shot and pocketed all his balls winning it very easily before Shafiq Kayongo pulled a game back in the second.

The next two games, like the first two, were shared out with Kayongo again coming from behind to level at 2-2.

From then on, Namanya, one of eight seeded players who did not go through the qualifiers, never looked back and won the next three games. He forced his opponent into foul trouble whenever he seemed like pulling a game back.

Stephen Ssentongo, John Wanyama and Sam Kayongo were Namanya’s other victims from the fourth round up to the finals.
