WORLD junior cross country bronze medalist Moses Kibet is the latest Ugandan to secure a ticket to the IAAF World Championships in Berlin. Kibet who will compete in the 5000m, becomes the 11th Ugandan athlete to make it to the biennial event next month.

Athletics federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru confirmed that Kibet, who last week clocked a new personal best of 13:24.94 in Netherlands, had a time good enough to be put on the team as the qualifying period ends next week.

He joins Geoffrey Kusuro and Moses Kipsiro, who have already qualified for the event.

“I can confirm that he has been entered for the championships. It will be a good experience for him, especially that he is still a junior,” said Ayikoru.,
Uganda’s team to Berlin so far has 5000m runners Kipsiro, Geoffrey Kusuro and Moses Kibet, Boniface Kiprop and Martin Toroitich (10000m), Abraham Chepkirwok (800m), Benjamin Kiplagat and Simon Ayeko(3000m steeplechase) and Amos Masai, Nicholas Kiprono and Jane Suuto (marathon).

Former world champion Dorcus Inzikuru is yet to make the qualifying mark. The final list of those to compete will be compiled on Friday.

In another development, Toroitich and Geoffrey Kusuro will be the biggest guns at the inaugural mountain running championships due for Bukwo on Sunday.

The national team to the World Mountain running championship will be selected from this event.
