CHILDREN who were affected by the war in northern Uganda have won the music, dance and drama competition in Gulu district.

Their school, Laroo Boarding, registered at least 80% and above in the competitions, which attracted many primary schools in Gulu municipality.

The school has children who were former Lord’s Resistance Army war victims. They were credited for their excellent singing and performance of the Acholi traditional dance.

Other schools that performed well were Mary Immaculate and Gulu Prison Primary School.

The chief adjudicator, Valentine Olanya, challenged the choir trainers to double their efforts in sight-singing, saying it was the backbone of Western music.

Olanya tasked the schools to teach English and encourage pupils to speak it to enrich the drama festivals.

Gulu Prison and Mary Immaculate will represent Gulu Municipality in the regional competitions this week.
