THE Police are to start carrying out patrols in districts with land disputes to curb violence against landlords by the sitting tenants.

This was disclosed by the Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba, on Tuesday while at Makulukulu village in Kayunga district where tenants killed a landlord identified as Sam Kubo .

Kubo had gone with surveyors to open boundaries of his land.

“The regular police patrols will intensify security in the areas where there are land disputes. This will ensure that there are no mob actions against the land lords” Nabakooba said.

She said Kayunga, Mukono, Mubende, Mityana and Wakiso districts would be patrolled.

“We have discovered that the public is incited by their leaders and we shall not toleralate this any more. Whoever is involved in such acts shall be arrested,” She added.

Nabakooba said nine people had been arrested in connection to the murder of Kubo.

The suspects are Dan Ziraba, Anthony Kiwanuka, Mohamed Kiggundu, Stephen Katongole, Amir Kabega, William Ssebuufu and two women identified as Cecilia Nantamu and Veronica Nankabirwa.

“The suspects are said to have participated much in killing Kubo and later burnt his body,” Nabakooba explained.

She added that the arrested women made an alarm that incited people to come and take part in the murder.

Nabakooba advised the residents to report the land lords they suspect of intending to evict them from their bibanja to the relevant authorities rather than killing them.

Meanwhile, some residents have fled their homes for fear of being arrested.
