Leaders to brainstorm pact
- The construction of high performance training centres across the country and training technical persons will be among the main issues to be discussed, as stakeholders meet at Namboole to review the new sports pact signed between the Uganda and Germany governments. “The implementation of the protocol shall need a thorough analysis of the current situation of physical education and sports in Uganda,” read a communication from Dan Tamwesigire, the commissioner for sports in the education and sports ministry. Germany signed a four-year technical cooperation agreement to improve physical education and sports in the country. Stakeholders will explore how best pact can contribute towards sports development. Already Germany has dispatched to the country a trainers’ trainer, Gunter Lange, to oversee the implementation of the policy the three-day workshop at Namboole will address.

Ramadan Cup
- Muslim students from higher institution of learning have organised a Ramadan tournament involving eight teams, Kyambogo University, Makerere University, Makerere University Business School, Buganda Royal Institute, Muteesa 1 Royal University, Kampala University, Kampala International University (KIU) and Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) Kampala campus. According to Musa Kimuli, sports secretary Makerere University Students Association, the event runs September 6-18. Teams will be grouped in two groups at Makerere and Kyambogo. The winner will receive a trophy and certificates awarded to all participants.
