THE Uganda Golf Open that tees off at Entebbe Golf Club tomorrow will test Uganda national team players who are currently in residential camp

THE Uganda Golf Open that tees off at Entebbe Golf Club tomorrow will test Uganda national team players who are currently in residential camp, reports Douglas Mazune.

Uganda Golf Union (UGU) secretary Gad Musasizi said that the four-day uganda telecom sponsored tournament will guide them in selecting Uganda’s team that will compete in the East African Challenge that tees off on Monday. The Ugandans will face off with over 50 international players from Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Burundi in the Uganda Open.

“We will even select the team during the Uganda Open. It’s a great opportunity to gauge our players. All the 14 players in camp will compete in the Uganda Open,” Musasizi remarked.

The squad was picked basing on players’ rankings in the UGU stroke-play championship.

The 72-hole tournament will feature over 180 amateurs while the professional event has 25 golfers from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

The amateur event is limited to competitors below handicap 8 while those between 8 and 14 will go for the subsidiary event.

Nile Gold and Midcom and Pepsi are co-sponsors of Uganda’s premier golf event that Entebbe will host for the first time.
