Residents of Bugweri county on Tuesday abandoned work to welcome Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Besigye’s convoy reached Idudi trading centre in Iganga district during a downpour but enthusiastic fans braved the rain and surrounded the car he was travelling in.

“Omusadha aidye aloga aloge (The man has come. Those hurt should resort to witchcraft),” supporters chorused ahead of his motorcade.

Besigye assured the people that he was aware of their unwavering support for FDC even if the electoral commission has over the years engineered poll rigging in favour of President Yoweri Museveni.

“The whole world saw those famous pictures of you the people of Idudi resisting the armed men in yellow T-shirts in 2006. We took them to the Commonwealth, UN and allover the world,” he said drawing applause.

Besigye accompanied by area MP Abdu Katuntu, got another enthusiastic reception in Busembatia town.

FDC stalwart Katuntu trounced Third Deputy Prime Minister Kirunda Kivejinja last December in a hotly contested by-election.

The tough-talking Besigye, on the second day of his Busoga region tour, addressed the gathering way into the night prompting aides to light a lamp to boost visibility.

According to Besigye, the people of Bugweri are under his leadership because they are the only Basoga who have voted overwhelmingly for FDC since 2001.
