THE Government has been urged to initiate negotiations between landlords and tenants of Kayunga district, to heal the souring relationship between the two parties.

State minister for the elderly and disability affairs Sulaiman Madada, and MP for Bbaale county, said whereas landlords and tenants were recognised by law, some people were occupying land that did not fall in either category.

He noted that the poor relationship forced tenants to opt for mob justice against their landlords for fear of being evicted.

“The Government should take steps to restore the good relationship between the landlords and unlawfully tenants to settle land disputes,” Madada added.

He said the Government should make laws that recognise tenants who settled on land after the 1995 Constitution.

He said the situation had affected development since landlords and tenants had refused to invest in the land because of insecurities about the future.
