<b>Boy dies in house fire</b><br>TORORO - A three-year-old boy was on Monday night burnt to death as he slept in a grass-thatched house. The incident happened in Amagoro village, Osukuru sub-county when a candle exploded, setting ablaze the entire hut.

The incident happened in Amagoro village, Osukuru sub-county when a candle exploded, setting ablaze the entire hut. The acting officer in charge of the district criminal investigation department, George Mawerere, said Timothy Ogoro got burnt beyond recognition.

Health officials cautioned

BUTALEJA - The district chief administrative officer, Francis Oluka, has cautioned health personnel against extorting money from patients. Addressing over 200 health workers on Monday at the district chambers hall, Oluka said he had received numerous complaints that most health personnel were asking for between sh1,000 and sh2,000 from patients claiming it was for treatment. He warned that those found guilty would be prosecuted.

Mugiti against joining town

BUDAKA - Residents of Bwikomba village in Mugiti sub-county have opposed Kamonkoli sub-county council’s suggestion to transfer the village to Kamonkoli town board. During a consultative meeting at Nyanza parish on Wednesday, the residents said they had lived peacefully in Mugiti and saw no reason to be annexed to Kamonkoli. The area councillor, Kefa Nayepe, said the decision was done without consultation with the residents.

Sh400m for pit-latrines

PALIISA - The district will spend sh400m to construct pit-latrines in primary schools to improve sanitation. This was disclosed by the district chairperson, Bantalib Taligola, during the approval of the budget for the financial year 2009/10 yesterday. One room will be specially designed for disabled children.
