RUGBY Cranes Sevens coach Ronnie Lutakome is worried that Uganda’s hopes of making an impact at an international sevens tournament due September 25-26 in Namibia may be undermined by local clubs.
“Club officials don’t give national duty first priority. They want players at their clubs at any time they so wish,†a furious Lutakome said yesterday.
“The national team is bigger than a club, I will only release the players for the Uganda Cup semi-finals and thereafter no player will be allowed to miss national team training.â€
Lukome’s concerns follow the clubs’ request to have their players on the national team released for the Uganda Cup.
MTN Heathens are pitted against G4S Pirates while uganda telecom Kobs are up against Entebbe Mongers in the fight for the final.
The Namibia event, sanctioned by the world rugby body IRB, has attracted several teams including the top ranked South Africa, Argentina, Fiji, Spain, Samoa and Portugal.
