THE Lugogo indoor stadium is to become an all-seater facility. It will also have VIP boxes when the sh700m renovation funded by MTN is completed.

According to national sports council NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa, the stadium stands will be furnished with seats to a capacity yet to be declared.

Sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi was on Saturday assured that NCS and MTN Foundation are in final discussions about the new arrangement. The minister was inspecting the works.

“We sold the idea to MTN and they liked it. They are expected to declare their position soon,” said Aligawesa.

Works on the complex, the biggest indoor facility in eastern Africa, started a month ago. The roofing of the 55-year old building is complete and the engineers are now undertaking other structural phases. Floor and ceiling materials will be imported.

“National sports federations are being consulted on which floor suits their sports best before a decision on materials is taken,” said Aligawesa.

“The offices are to be modified into VIP boxes and offices designed under the stands,” disclosed Aligawesa, adding that they expected all the works on the structure to have been finished within two months.

Bakkabulindi appreciated the work, especially the plumbing.
