THREE days to the kick off of the 2009-10 Uganda Super League, newcomers CRO from Mbale, Hoima and Arua clubs are yet to finalise registration for the soccer competition.

The game’s governing body FUFA has however said they will be lenient and give the new clubs more time, but the league will kick off as planned.

The federation competitions committee had earlier warned that under their newly adopted Uganda Super League rules, no club would be allowed to start the competition without meeting all requirements. Also still being sought, is a league sponsor.

“We can’t delay the league anymore. We have to kick off on Saturday as we finalise with a possible sponsor next week,” said competitions committee secretary Moses Magogo.

The clubs confirmed that they were yet to meet some requirements of the rule pertaining to players and coaches registration and higher standards for their home grounds.

Fire Masters FC manager Peter Johnson, whose bulk of players are employees of the fire safety company, confirmed yesterday that they only issued contracts to players signed from other clubs.

“Most of our players are employed here so we are not issuing them contracts. Only a few have contracts,” Johnson said.

Mbale based charity organisation Children’s Restoration Outreach CRO FC wants to use its rehabilitated youth, who they say don’t expect to be paid.

“The league will kick off but I’m still concerned about our new members especially from upcountry. They are yet to finalise issues with FUFA,” competitions chief Col Jackson ‘Bell’ Tushabe said.
