DEFENDING champions KCC volleyball club bounced back on top of the Serie A summit after edging KAVC, COBAP and UCU 3-1 over the weekend, reports Samson Opus.

KCC that ceded the lead to Nkumba when they fell to NEMO Stars earlier returned with vengeance. Jeff Lwalanda, Isaac Omedo, Nicholas Dheyongera and Cuthbert Okore displayed top spiking power.

Council tops the men’s Serie A with 33 points from 18 games ahead of the play-offs. Nkumba is second with 32 from 18 games. KAVC and Sport-S are third on 29 with a game between themselves. The top four teams qualify for the play-offs.

“It was a team effort and I thank the boys for the fighting spirit” remarked KCC coach Rafi Bachu.

KCC takes on the loser between KAVC and Sport-S in the remaining game to decide the playoffs lineup.

The crowd was hostile to KCC but team captain Lwalanda thinks that is no problem to them. “As usual we are not crowd favourites but to us, this is the basis of our determination to win”.

In the women’s category, KCC remained on the verge of missing the play-offs despite beating Nkumba University and NEMO Stars 3-1 and 3-0 respectively. The struggling three time champions are in fifth place but with a game in hand.
