GULU district chairman Norbert Mao has promised to ask the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, to relocate Gulu Police Station to free land for expansion of Gulu referral Hospital.

This follows a report by the medical superintendent, Dr. Yoventino Agel Akii, asking for 50 acres of land for expansion.

“When Gen. Kayihura comes, we shall ask the Police to avail more land for expansion since the station is near the hospital,” Mao said.

He said this during a meeting with the management committee of the hospital headed by Dr. Agel, at the hospital on Thursday.

Mao hailed the infrastructural development taking place at the hospital.

He stated that he was impressed with the rehabilitation of the surgical and medical wards by the Government.

The hospital is also building a new drug store and staff housing unit for 18 workers.

Agel said in the last six months, the number of out-patients had increased from about 320 to 400.

He noted that although the patients had increased, the resources had not.
