THE First Lady, Janet Museveni, has appealed to the members and leaders of the Uganda Women’s Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO) to stick to their founding principles if the organisation is to achieve its mission of parenting orphans and bringing hope into their lives.

Mrs. Museveni, who is the patron and one of the founders of the organisation, made the remarks while addressing the organisation’s general assembly on Saturday at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

She said although UWESO had made great strides and managed to put a smile on the faces of many orphaned children and widows, there was need to be cautious and guard against the risk of derailing from the founding principles.

“UWESO is not for politics. It is for every vulnerable child. We founded it because of the hopelessness, which existed on the faces of orphans,” Mrs. Museveni said.

She also asked the organisation leaders to be transparent and accountable, adding that there were reports of brief-case NGOs, which she said did not serve the needs of the communities but exploited them.
Mrs. Museveni challenged UWESO to be a role model to other organisations and diligently offer services to children.

She thanked the people, who had spearheaded the organistaion for the past two decades. The General Assembly elected the new national executive committee.
