THE Government has given local agricultural exhibitors sh60b to participate in the upcoming international trade fair in Kampala this week. “The Government is committed to boosting the agriculture sector and for the first time is funding agricultural companies in this year’s trade fair,” said Kaddu Kiberu, the chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association.

The fair opens today and closes on October 12, at Lugogo showgrounds in Kampala. Speaking at a press conference at the association’s offices in Lugogo last week, Kiberu said the funds will be used to display various agro-products, demonstrate agricultural technologies and showcase the benefits of value addition as a requirement for competitive global export markets.

Some of the exhibitors to be funded include the National Agricultural Advisory Services and the National Agricultural Research Organisation.

“This year’s fair has attracted public interest and better organisation. We have more companies to showcase advanced technologies to help small and medium enterprises improve production,” he added.

Companies like Africa Alternative Energy Solutions will show case electricity for domestic use, built in a boot of a car, to act as a small power station, while ZK software company will show off its finger-print and facial biometric systems.

Other modern technology firms include Eskimo, which produces hot and cold ice that come in flat sheets and Bernard and Sons International which deals in water purification technology and machines.

“This year’s fair expects to attract 200,000 visitors and 900 exhibitors from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.” “This is based on the present bookings on the exhibition halls, path ways, pavilions, stalls and the amount of accomplished renovations ahead of the event,” Kiberu said.

African Air Rescue will provide health insurance policy for show attendees, in case of accidents, he added. Kiberu advised exhiibitors to load their merchandise before 9:00am to allow visitors move freely.
