MASAKA - The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, has told the public not to be blinded by earthly wealth. He made the remarks during the burial of a businessman in Masaka, Hajji Matovu Sagalabayomba, that took place in Ndagwe village on Tuesday. Mubajje said many people may lose the chance go to heaven because of the earthly pleasures.

LC5 councillor arrested

RAKAI - The Police have arrested an LC5 councillor of Kyotera town council for allegedly commanding a group of youth to participate in the recent riots that rocked parts of Buganda. The southern regional Police spokesperson, Noah Serunjogi, on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Henry Mulindwa, saying he had been on the run for the last three weeks. He said it was some of those who were granted bail that complained that Mulindwa had bribed the Police to let him go uncharged. Serunjoji said Mulindwa would also be taken to court to face charges of commanding people to participate in the riots.

UPDF held over robbery

MUKONO - Five people, including a UPDF soldier, a special Police constable and three civilians have been arrested in connection with a robbery attempt. Muhammad Kirya of UPDF and his team were arrested at Kikawula-Nkoko village, on September 29, after they survived being lynched by a mob. Other suspects are, William Nsubuga, attached to the Central Police Station, and James Mubiru of Ndejje in Kampala. Issa Luzinda and Charles Mujaasi of Lugazi were also arrested. The central regional Police spokesperson, Lamek Kigozi, said the suspects were intercepted by villagers after they had mounted a fake road block at night. Police recovered two motorvehicles, a gun and 30 bullets. Kigozi said the suspects would be charged with aggravated robbery.
