THE Government is to rehabilitate Mubuku, Doho, Agoro and Olweny irrigation schemes.

According to a notice for expression of interest from the agriculture ministry, the project is aimed at restoring the irrigation potential of the four schemes to improve farm incomes, food securiity and rural livelihoods. This, the notice adds, would be done through sustainable natural resources management and agricultural enterprise.

The agriculture ministry, therefore, wants consultancy services for design and supervision of the projects.
The notice signed by the permanent secretary, indicated that the project would involve carrying the relevant technical investigations and studies, and preparing engineering designs to facilitate rehabilitation and construction of civil and hydraulic structures and supervision of the rehabilitation works.

The project is to be funded by the African Development Fund under the Uganda farm income enhancement and forest conservation project.

“Interested firms must provide statements of capability and experience indicating that they are qualified to perform the services. They must also have the capacity to undertake the assignment of the four schemes concurrently,” the notice said.

Selection of firms would be done in accordance to the African Development Bank’s rules of procedure for use of consultants of May 2008, it added.
