Young talent lights-up WAPI concert

Youngsters had the audience at People’s Space in stitches with their splendid performance of Luga-flow (Luganda hip-hop) during the Words and Pictures (WAPI) concert. Bavubuka Foundation, trained young lads.
The event was sponsored by the the British Council. Stage names included MC Been (Junior Kayamba), Fikifiki (Shafiq Bbossa), DMD (Boris Aguma) and MC Ship (Meddie Sserunkuma), all trained by Blue Banton.
Equally elating the audience were Jungleman, a Lusoga rapper and Ankah MC, who rapped in Runyankole. The Saturday show was an inspiring event especially for raw talent.
Eye catching artwork showed that there are many young gifted fellows, ready to do something for survival but only lack support. Ali Loukman’s pencil work for instance was worth a million words.
This lad makes you believe anything is possible. His pictures are so good; you would think he used a photocopier. He has been drawing since childhood and will be joining University soon. But without a studio and any where to exhibit from, his work will go unnoticed unless other concerts such as this are organised.
It is sad if promoters, talent scouts and managers do not attend these shows where Uganda’s art can be groomed and supported. From poets, to fashion designers and craft makers, the list is endless.
Song writer, Silver Kyagulanyi told participants to include wisdom and integrity in their pursuit for success.
