OVER 30 girls have been defiled in one school in Hoima district this year.

In a report to the district education department, Alice Kabajungu, the head teacher of Katereiga Primary School in Buhanika sub-county, said the girls had also been impregnated.

The report, which was handed over to the district education officer, James Isoke, during a parents’ meeting on Tuesday, said all the 30 girls had dropped out of school.

“Some of these girls have already given birth and are now child parents and their guardians do not have any problem with it,” she said.

Kabajungu added that some of the girls who had been defiled were orphans and had no one to take care of them.

She said defilers were taking advantage of the vulnerable girls to coerce them into sex.

“I have always had a hard time chasing away the defilers. They have reached the extent of finding my girls at school. They come for them when they are about to leave school and defile them on the way home.”

Kabajungu said the problem was compounded by parents, who marry off their daughters for wealth.

The district education officer said several pupils had been impregnated in various schools in the district.

Isoke vowed to arrest parents who have withdrawn their children from school and married them off.

“We are going to resume arresting parents as we have done before. This time most of them will be charged in court for sabotaging government programmes,” Isoke said.

The district speaker, Yunusu Mugabe, who is also the Buhanika sub-county councillor, said some parents were exchanging their daughters for motorcycles.
