IN a show that was the talk of the town, what should have been an unforgettable evening, turned into a tedious affair as technical glitches put a dent in the proceedings at the Top Model Trend Hair and Fashion Search Uganda 2009 at the Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall on Saturday evening.

The Top Model Trend search kicked off in early September with auditions for hairstylists, fashion designers and models. It is the first event of its kind in Uganda although it has its origins in France where it was first held in 1998.

The show is supposed to provide a springboard for new talent. The finale saw six designers, five hairstylists and 16 models competing. The winners in each category were recognised with an award.

Under the theme: innovation, the evening started off with five hairstylists showcasing three hairstyles each. This included Chris Damulira of Trends Salon and Jackson of Humura Resort Salon. Sam Samwiri won the award for best Runway Hair.

Sixteen models made it to the finale but only one girl could be crowned Top Model and the award for this category went to Leila Nakate.

The best designer was Anila Alibhai for her simply chic and sexy collection of party dresses. The three winners were picked by judges Keturah Kamugasa, the Editor of Flair Magazine and Sarah Kizito of Lady Charlotte boutiques and salons.

Fashion designer Sylvia Owori received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The award winning RnB sister duo, Gal Level, from Namibia flew in for the event and they were one of the highlights of the evening. The other entertainment acts were the Stingers Dance group and Gospel artiste Luther T.
