The former Kasese district chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has crossed to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Zephar Mubigwa was on Monday received by the district NRM chairman and defence minister, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, at Virina Gardens hotel in Kasese town.

Mubigwa was forced to quit as chairman following accusations that he was holding secret meetings with the NRM.

Addressing NRM cadres as he announced his defection, Mubigwa said FDC lacked democratic principles.

“I feel there is no reason for me to continue to be on the opposition side, because the Government is addressing issues that touched my hear like corruption, poverty and rural electrification,” Mubigwa explained.

The Government extended power to Mpondwe customs post, Kisinga and other rural areas in the district.
Kiyonga said the NRM had won a patriotic and influential mobiliser.
