MTN Heathens beat traditional rivals uganda telecom Kobs 29-5 in the final of the Broadband rugby 7s circuit at Kyadondo on Saturday, to lift their fifth title of the season.

Ronnie Mwisaka, Scot Olwoch, Jude Kirimundu, Michael Wokorach and Brian Kikawa scored tries while tournament MVP Benon Kiiza managed two conversions for the champions before James Kimono scored a consolation try for Kobs.

“We played our best but Heathens were a better side and deserved it,” Kobs tactician Herbert Wafula conceded.

“No doubt, we are working hard to reconstitute a strong side that will reclaim Kobs glory next season,” Wafula charged.

In the semifinals, Heathens whipped Pirates 40-0 while Kobs beat Impis 19-12 to set up a third final between the two rivals this season.

Heathens collected 80 points while Impis (52) and Kobs (44) trailed in second and third positions respectively over the four legs.

Heathens bagged sh1m for the victory, runners-up Impis and MVP Kiiza sh500,000 cash prizes each respectively.

The event sponsor, Broadband managing director Arvid Knutsen, commended the players for the commitment to make rugby the leading sport in the country and promised to continue supporting the sport.

Namibia, meanwhile, secured 22-10 home win against Tunisia in a tense and physical match in Windhoek on Saturday to qualify for the New Zealand 2011 World Cup.

Namibia, who also won the first leg in Tunis 18-13, got a 40-23 aggregate to join world champions South Africa, Wales, Fiji and Samoa in Pool D.

It is the fourth successive time Namibia qualified for the world showpiece.

Tunisia have another chance to qualify for their first ever World Cup, via the cross-continental play-off next year.
