A gang of gunmen raided a Police post in Moyo district and stole three guns on Wednesday night. The incident happened at Ndirindiri Police post in Palorinya parish, Obongi county, about 20km south-west of Moyo town.

The army spokesman in the West Nile region, Capt. Peter Mugisa, blamed the raid on the negligence of the officer in charge of the post.

“Some unknown men penetrated the Police post and disappeared with three guns due to the negligence of the Police officer at the station,” he said.

Nobody has been arrested.

Mugisa observed that the incident posed a security concern, adding that the army would launch its own investigation.
There was reportedly no resistance from the Police and no gunshots were heard.

The regional Police commander, Patrick Otika, also attributed the incident to “sheer negligence.”

He said the matter was being investigated and the Police were tracking the suspects.

Obongi county was one of the areas affected by the rebels of the Uganda National Rescue Front II headed by Ali Bamuze, who signed a peace agreement with the government on Christmas Day 2002 in Moyo
