Umony vows to fight on at SuperSport

WHEN Brian Umony joined South African champions SuperSport United in pre-season, his chief objective was assuming cult status as a lead striker, the way he had done at his former club KCC FC.
He has not given up that dream and has vowed to continue fighting for a first team place after a start in which he basically was used as a substitute.
“I have fought before and will continue with the hope of finding that regular first team place. Of course I am not being played like I was at KCC,†Umony said.
Umony has only had four starts and several substitute appearances since the season started. This is because the club’s lead and experienced striker Glen Salmon has been injury-free for much of the season.
Of course joining a championship-winning team was never going to be easy for the Ugandan. He has had to compete alongside three established forwards at the club –– Salmon, Dario Monterio and Tabo Mongalo.
Umony is confident SuperSport boss Gavin Hunt will not lose faith in his abilities.
“He (Hunt) is a wonderful coach, who takes care of his players. He keeps reminding me about my qualities and how much he believes in my abilities. At the moment he wants me to continue working hard,†Umony added.
“I am sure next season will be better than this,†he added.

After a long spell out injured, URA FC and Cranes’ towering goalkeeper Abbey Dhaira has been flown to France for treatment by Congolese champions TP Mazembe, Swalley Kenyi adds.
Mazembe officials picked Dhaira from Kampala recently after an agreement with URA that they will treat him before initiating talks to sign him to feature in the 2009 CAF Champions League starting next February.
“We failed to identify his medical problem. When TP Mazambe came, it was an opportunity for him to get further treatment. If they succeed to treat him, the clubs will agree on terms to let him join the Congolese,†a source in URA said.
