Business in Bushenyi town and at the district headquarters came to a standstill on Tuesday when angry residents took to the streets to demonstrate against the delayed completion of the district stadium.

The demonstrators, led by the Bushenyi Civil Society Organisation forum, gathered at the stadium where construction has stalled for over five years.

They presented a petition to the resident district commissioner, John Gaston Maliro, demanding for accountability of over sh900m meant for the work.

“We would like to express our concern and dissatisfaction to the district local government, for its failure to complete the district satdium on schedule,” the petition read.

A total of 160 concerned residents signed the petition.

HABA Construction Company, belonging to business tycoon, Hassan Basajjabalaba, got the tender to construct the stadium.

They noted that the failure to complete the stadium had negatively affected the development of sports, educational and economic activity.

They appealed to the RDC and the President to intervene and get an explanation for the delayed construction works.

The deputy resident district commissioner, Nickson Kabuye, received the petition on behalf of the RDC and promised to look into the matter.
