When the boys call for a rendezvous at your favourite bar, tell them that you are keeping low for now. The children are on holiday and they are here for the long haul – three months.
There is not a better time to bond. If your children are teenagers, your presence at home is treated like an alien invasion (but that is only if you are the type of dad that loves to domineer and demand that everything is done your way).
Be nice and friendly. You can talk but do more of the listening. Avoid being confrontational. Find solutions to problems as a team. You can still meet up with the boys twice or once a week, but try and spare time for your family. It will also help you save some money.
