A team of African football greats on Friday lost 2-0 to a select Ugandan Super League side in a charity match at Nakivubo stadium.

Big names like Cameroon’s Patrick Mboma, Francois Omam Biyick, his brother Andre Kana Biyick, Cyril Makanaky and Emmanuel Maboang and Kenya’s Henry Motego together with Tony Lwanga plus Rwanda’s Olivier Karekezi were here to promote a charity: Kampala School of Excellence Ministries.

Though the turn up was far below expectations and the subsequent dinner did not also have the required impact- Dan Ntale, the charity’s chairman, was still proud for having scored where few Ugandans have.

Such stars do not only come with crucial tips, but they also have good connections to both European clubs and international sponsors, who can help give a future to talents in developing countries like Uganda.

Among the new friends that the school found is Maboang, who was brought to Uganda courtesy of his friendship to Mboma - a friend to Ntale.

Maboang, a 1990 and 1994 World Cup star is not only a players’ agent, but his personal friendship with the Orange administration, also saw them sponsor the friendly match. Could there have been a better way for the school to forge a strong relationship with the telecom company?

It is such opportunities that KSEM should utilise by making good follow-ups and a new future will be born.
Keep it up Ntale.
