THE European Development Fund has donated sh789m towards the renovation of 100 primary schools in Bugiri district.

The district personnel officer, Nasser Mukiibi, said some money would be used to organise training to ensure a good relationship between head teachers and their staff.

Mukiibi was speaking at the closure of a three-day workshop for head teachers and senior women teachers at the Executive Hotel in Bugiri town last Wednesday.

He said over 600 head teachers and women teachers in the district were expected to receive capacity building training.

“We want to help the teachers to follow their professional code of conduct,” he said.

Mukiibi said the training would enhance good standards in the education sector.

He appealed to teachers to set an example by dressing decently and not drinking excessively.

Mukiibi hailed the European European for improving the academic standards in the district.

The district education officer in-charge of staff, David Kazungu, cautioned teachers against defiling pupils.

He attributed the declining academic standards in the district to the failure by parents to provide lunch for their children. Kazungu also said teachers were lazy and often dodged classes.
