NOT even two forced draws could stop Uganda from lifting the ICC East Africa U-15 tournament that concluded yesterday at the Kyambogo Oval.

After two of their four matches were washed out by rain, Uganda won both their encounters against Kenya and Tanzania to put the hosts in command with an unaasailable 12 points.

This meant that the final game between Tanzania and Kenya became a placement contest.

In Kenya, Ivan Thawithemwira made a statement on his national team debut, hitting 30 runs as Uganda beat Kenya by three wickets in a Twenty20 game in Nairobi yesterday.

Kenya’s David Obuya put on an unbeaten 27 with Maurice Ouma (22) setting Uganda a target of 104.

But Thawi, as he is commonly known, knocked 30 runs with newcomer Arthur Ziraba (21) and opener Roger Mukasa (23), as Uganda passed the target with 3 wickets to spare.
