THE Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, on Monday reshuffled his cabinet, recalling three former Katikkiros (prime ministers) as his advisors.

The reshuffle was announced on the Central Broadcasting Service radio at 9.00pm, just after the Kabaka attended the radio’s end of year concert dubbed ‘Nkuuka’ at his palace in Mengo.

Mutebi elevated the former finance minister, Eng. J.B. Walusimbi, to the position of Katikiro, replacing Emmanuel Ssendaula, who now deputises Walusimbi and will also be in charge of foreign affairs.

The former MP for Makindye East and veteran politician, Yusuf Nsubuga Nsambu, has been appointed second deputy Katikkiro and will oversee, culture, tombs and tourism.

Nsubuga has been rocked in a row over the leadership of the Conservative Party with outspoken former Lubaga South MP, Ken Lukyamuzi.

Three former Katikkiros, Joshua Mayanja Nkangi, long-serving Joseph Ssemwogerere and Dan Muliika, who was sacked last year, have been appointed advisers.

Nine ministers were dropped, while former minister Charles Peter Mayiga bounced back to reclaim his post of kingdom spokesman. He replaces fellow lawyer, Medard Sseggona.

Kaddu Sserunkuuma, son of the former Lukiiko speaker, the Ali Kulumba, becomes the new speaker, filling the vacuum created by the death of Sulaiman Kaddunabbi Lubega.

Kaddu and Nsambu become the top Muslims in the Kabaka’s government. During a recent visit to Kaddunabbi’s home in Butambala, Mpigi district, Mutebi promised not to ‘forget’ the Muslims in his appointments.

The cabinet will serve a term of four years, after which the Kabaka will either retain or drop them, the communication stated.

The reshuffle comes at a time when Buganda is conflicting with the Government over proposals to amend the Land law.

President Yoweri Museveni is waiting to meet the Kabaka on January 11.
The Kabaka cancelled the first invitation at the last moment, prompting the President to write a letter to him, accusing CBS of being hijacked by enemies of the Government.
