THE public service ministry has rejected three nomines for the District Service Commission (DSC).

Addressing a council session at Scouts Hall recently, Bob Okae, the district vice chairperson and leader of Government Business, said the former commissioner in charge of forestry, Dickson Olet, Florence Okuja, a retired accounts assistant and Bishop Medi Otim, were not approved by the ministry.

Retired veterinary officer, and former secondary school teacher, Dr Abel Obot and Palma Wacha were the only two members appointed. The council had nominated five names to form the DSC and remitted them to the Ministry of Public Service for approval.

Following the rejection, the district executive committee headed by Nicholas Opio-Bunga, proposed retired police officer, Geoffrey Erach, former accountant with Uganda Revenue Authority, Francis Pule and Rose Nyambogo, former trade development officer in Lira and Apac, to the council, which endorsed them and forwarded them to Kampala.

Opio-Bunga said the new nominees have proven integrity. “We hope they won’t be rejected,” he said.

Bunga said the vacancies, which would be filled soon after the approval of the new members, were created following the newly created Oyam district that seconded officers from its mother district, Apac. He said the 2004/2005 national validation exercise that laid off several civil servants in the district was another cause for a new committee to be appointed.
