THE festive season is over and its effects may be evident on the weighing scale. We all want to start the New Year with a bang, on a high note, looking our best at all those New Year parties and inevitable get-togethers.

Well, while we shed the unwanted kilos, here are a few homemade looks that disguise what we want to hide and the make the most of what we have.

A new look for the new you in the New Year!!

The outfit:
It’s an office affair so you need to maintain a professional image and the trick is how to do this and at the same time achieve a new look to go with the New Year. Say hello to stripes and pockets which when used subtly will enhance your look and at the same time stay within the realm of the professional.

Tip:
To enhance a small bust, breast pockets will work wonders. (in this instance the direction of the stripes was changed from going down the torso to across the bust on the pocket pieces) Pockets located high on the bottom give the impression of bulk so if you want to slim your bottom do away with the pockets and for the lucky few that need to enhance this area, pockets are the answer.

Fabric requirements:
This outfit can be made out of linen, khaki, denim, corduroy and any other such cotton fabrics. Ideally the bulkier fabric should be used to make the trousers.

1-2 metres of double width fabric is needed for the shirt. (Striped fabric is tricky so don’t be surprised if your seamstress asks for half a metre more)

2-2½metres of double width fabric is needed for the trouser ½-1m of black fabric for the belt is needed to accessorise the outfit as illustrated.
