A NEPHEW to former murder suspect and Australian-based Ugandan cardiologist, Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, has a case to answer over murder, court has said.

Laban Kiwanuka, a driver at Dehezi International, owned by Kiyingi, is facing charges of inciting the murder of Kiyingi’s wife Robinah Erina Kayaga.

Kiyingi was acquitted of the murder charges in December 2006 for lack of evidence. Kayaga was killed on July 11, 2005 outside the gate of her home in Buziga, Kampala.

Kiwanuka allegedly hired a UPDF soldier, Musa Nyanzi, to gun down Kayaga, a city lawyer.

Buganda Road Court Magistrate Susan Kanyange last week said prosecution had submitted enough evidence, which requires Kiwanuka to defend himself against the allegations. He was ordered to appear in court on February 6.

Prosecution led by Kate Basuuta brought only one witness, Nyanzi, who accused Kiwanuka of hiring him to kill Kayaga.

He said he turned down the offer and instead reported Kiwanuka to Kayaga, who later reported the matter to the Police.
