WHAT? Chamillionaire hooking up with a local Ugandan boy for a duet? You must be pulling my leg!” a Sanyu FM radio presenter said when he got wind of the news. But quips aside, Ugandan hip hop artiste Rash Muwereza, 21, aka Ceasar Star, pulled an incredible feat and wooed the Grammy Award-winning sensation Chamillionaire to do a collaboration with him.

The duet, In Love With My Money, is about hustling to make money through hip-hop music. It is already getting tremendous airplay on Shady45, a European hip-hop radio station and it is only a matter of time before the song crosses over to the US.

The song is also getting airplay on Sanyu FM and Kfm. But how did a struggling, local artiste get to hook up with an internationally-acclaimed rapper? “I was one of the artistes to curtain raise for a jig where Chamillionaire and Lil’ Wayne were to perform at the Mega Park in Barcelona, Spain last year. Soon after the jig,” Ceaser Star explains.

“Chamillionaire said he liked the way I rapped. I pushed for an opportunity to have a duet with him. He was very open to it and that very night, we composed something and recorded it thereafter.”

Ceaser Star is back in Entebbe to promote his debut album M.I.A.M.I (Money Is a Major Issue), after which he will return to San Mames College in Spain, where he studies art and music.
