THE German President, Horst Kohler, will visit Uganda on February 3, the German ambassador has said.

Speaking in Gulu last week, Reinhard Buchholz said Kohler, who was invited by President Yoweri Museveni, would also visit Gulu on February 5.

“The president would like to contribute and see how to support the reconciliation process in northern Uganda for sustainable development,” Buchholz said.
He added that the German government would continue supporting the process of IDPs returning to their homes.

Kohler is expected to be accompanied by the German first lady, four members of parliament, officials from the German government and members from the civil society organisations.

Accompanied by the embassy chief of protocol Dr. Rainald Steck, Buchholz visited the Acholi paramount chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II, in his palace in Gulu.

They also toured Gulu University, World Vision children of war rehabilitation centre and Coo-pe IDP camp in Bungatira sub-county, which the German president is expected to visit.

Acana commended the German government for its support towards bringing peace in northern Uganda.
