PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has condemned reckless driving and acts of overloading passengers. This comes after seven people died and over 100 were injured when a Fuso truck overturned at Apii in Apac of Saturday.

The vehicle was transporting over 135 Christians from Boroboro Convention in Lira to Acaba in Oyam district.

In a condolence message to the bereaved families and to the Church of Uganda, Museveni said investigations would be carried out into the cause of the accident. The Police have blamed the accident on speeding and overloading.

“It is with profound shock that I learnt of the demise of members of the Church of Uganda in a fatal lorry accident that took place in Apii- Apac- Lira road on Saturday, while coming from a four-day religious convention organized by the Church of Uganda Boroboro Cathedral,” Museveni said.

“I wish to convey my sincere condolences and those of the NRM government to the bereaved families and to the Church of Uganda and well.
“I do wish to regret the occurrence which has come at a time of enforcement of speed governors.”

He said all Ugandans share in the grief of the bereaved families and prayed that the Almighty God grants them comfort and sustains them with his grace at the time of grief.

The helicopter also transported a medical team and supplies to Lira Hospital.
