The district, under the School Facilities Grant, is to construct 20 classrooms, 15 latrines and purchase 360 desks for schools. The tendering process is done and construction work started early this month. This was revealed in the presentation by the education department to a budget conference last week, at Kagote SDA Hall by district education officer Victoria Businge. She said, however, that the district lacked funding for Special Needs Education.

‘Stop crying over jobs

Graduands have been asked to stop lamenting over lack of employment and use their talents to survive. “The country still has enough resources which, if well utilised, can help you overcome poverty,” the director of DataPro Business Institute, Robert Waigumba, said this at the institute’s fifth graduation ceremony at Muzinga Park. He said many people graduate and take long to get jobs, blaming the Government for not being employed. The institute offers courses like Hotel Management, Business Administration and Secretarial Studies.

Charity aids orphans

Divine Mercy Project, a community-based charity, has donated uniforms and scholastic materials worth sh8m to pupils of Kabaya Primary School in Butanda sub-county. Director Jack Katarishangwa recently said the project aims at improving the academic standards of rural children.

Pupils get materials
WAKISO
Plant a Tree for Kids, an NGO in Bulamu, Gayaza, has donated scholastic materials to member pupils who excelled in tree planting and maintenance. PAT later assists the children plant fruit trees in their homes, looking after them until harvest time. Coordinator Allen Walugembe said they are targeting 600 fruit trees. “With the current deforestation, tree planting is the remedy,” she said.
