ZIGOTI Coffee Works, the makers and exporters of roasted coffee, is to produce instant coffee by March, the production manager has said, writes Kiganda Ssonko.
George Kisekka said the company’s strategy was to meet the growing demand for instant coffee in Asian and Middle East countries, which Zigoti is targeting as peripheral markets.

“We have invested heavily in a machine that is going to make instant coffee. At the beginning, we shall produce over five metric tonnes every month. The quantity will keep on rising.”

Kisekka said Zigoti exports 100 metric tonnes of green coffee, five metric tonnes of roasted coffee, while four metric tonnes are sold locally.

Instant coffee is powder soluble coffee, which dissolves instantly when added to water.

Zigoti, which uses organic Arabica coffee from Sebei and Mountain Elgon slopes, has outlets in Nagoya Japan, Malaysia and China.

Star Coffee and Super are the only Ugandan companies that have been making instant coffee.
