A total of 457 students on Saturday graduated from Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

Six graduands received doctorates, while 35 were awarded Masters degrees at the ceremony presided over by the vice-chancellor, Prof. Frederick Kayanja.

The batch also had nine pioneer graduands of the Bachelor of Pharmacy course.

Kayanja said the university needed more facilities and money to expand and meet its targets.

He commended the faculty of science for training quality teachers.

Kayanja revealed that the chemistry department had been invited by the British Council to participate in the African knowledge transfer partnership programme.

The partnership uses knowledge generated at universities to increase industrial output.

Among the graduands were the Ntare School head teacher, Humphrey Ahimbisibwe and Mbarara High School deputy head teacher Christopher Twesigye.

Both received Masters degrees in Educational Planning.
